Job Title: NMAMA Special Education Coordinator – Middle and High School
Reports To: Executive Director/Principal
Position Type: Full-Time / Administrative or Certified Position (based on district classification)
Job Summary:
The NMAMA Special Education Coordinator oversees the implementation and compliance of
special education services for middle and high school students. This role ensures high-quality
instruction, appropriate accommodations, and legal compliance with state and federal
regulations (IDEA, Section 504). The coordinator supports case managers, collaborates with
general education staff, leads IEP meetings, and works with families to promote positive
outcomes for students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Oversight & Compliance:
? Ensure all special education services are delivered in accordance with IEPs, IDEA, and
district policies
? Monitor timelines and compliance for evaluations, IEP development, and re-evaluations
? Conduct and/or facilitate IEP meetings, including complex or transition-focused cases
? Maintain accurate records and submit required reports to district and state agencies
? Support proper documentation and implementation of accommodations and
modifications
Staff Support & Leadership:
? Provide guidance and coaching to special education teachers, case managers, and
educational assistants
? Assist with hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of special education staff
? Plan and deliver professional development on best practices, compliance, and inclusive
education
? Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and
co-teaching models
? Coordinate with related service providers (e.g., speech, OT, PT, counseling) to align
student supports
Family & Student Support:
? Serve as a liaison between families and the school regarding special education services
? Communicate clearly with parents/guardians about rights, services, and student
progress
? Support transition planning for students entering or exiting special education, or
transitioning between grade levels or postsecondary settings
? Attend a minimum of 3 out of school functions, one of which must be graduation
? Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Principal
Qualifications:
? Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field (required
or preferred depending on district)
? Valid state certification in Special Education; Administrative credential may be
required/preferred
? Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a special education teacher or case manager
? Deep knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state/federal compliance requirements
? Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
? Experience with inclusive practices, data analysis, and student-centered planning
