Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Administration, to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a safe and optimal learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Develops and administers music school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Understands and supports the mission, vision, and values of Albuquerque School of Excellence.
  • Develop student understanding and appreciation of the art of music, including listening to a wide range of musical genre, periods, and styles. Develop a balanced music program and lessons.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize student engagement and learning.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Conducts tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures while instructing students in the principles of responsible citizenship, character, and sense of community in the classroom.
  • Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students and uses information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Attends department, grade-level, school, district, and parent meetings.
  • Participates and adheres to district and campus professional development sessions and requirements.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Prepares require reports on students and activities.
  • Assigns and grades classwork, homework, tests, and assignments.
  • Takes daily attendance.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with parents, students, and community members. Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Supports Social and Emotional Learning for students.
  • Models ASE core values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Empathy (RISE) for students through words and actions in the classroom.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Performs other duties necessary to school function and operations as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with all levels of management, students, & parents
  • Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to use computer including software, database used by district, spreadsheet, and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to analyze data.
 
Qualifications: 
Certification/License:       NMPED Teachers Certification/License (or Alternative Licensure) in K-8, 5-8 or 6-12 with Endorsement in assigned subject (Music)
 
Education:                         Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
 
Experience:                       Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level(s) a plus.
