Are you passionate about community impact, civic engagement, and empowering young people to lead with purpose? South Valley Academy is seeking a dynamic Service Learning Teacher to join our team and help students become active change-makers in their communities.
Position Overview:
The Service Learning Teacher will design and lead a curriculum that blends academic learning with hands-on community involvement. This role is rooted in social justice and critical reflection, aiming to help students develop strong agency, real-world skills, and a deep understanding of the issues affecting their communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a service learning curriculum aligned with academic and community goals.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate service learning across disciplines.
- Cultivate and manage partnerships with local organizations to support student-led service projects.
- Organize student placements, site visits, and community-based research projects.
- Facilitate classroom discussions and structured reflection to deepen understanding of civic responsibility, equity, and social justice.
- Support students in designing and implementing projects that address real-world challenges.
- Maintain documentation of service hours, partner contributions, and student impact.
- Promote service learning through school-wide events and community presentations.
- Evaluate program effectiveness for continuous improvement and reporting
Ideal Candidate Qualities:
- A strong grounding in social justice, anti-racist, and anti-oppression frameworks.
- Experience in community engagement, project-based learning, or youth development.
- Commitment to helping students understand and dismantle systems of oppression.
- Ability to collaborate with students, staff, families, and local partners.
