General Job Description
The Educational Assistant at Albuquerque Aviation Academy supports teachers and instructional staff in providing high-quality, aviation- and STEM-focused education. This position assists in meeting the academic, social, behavioral, and developmental needs of students while helping prepare them to become responsible, skilled, and career-ready individuals in the aviation, and STEAM fields.
The Educational Assistant promotes a positive school culture grounded in safety, professionalism, collaboration, and respect, consistent with the mission and vision of Albuquerque Aviation Academy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a genuine desire to work with students in an aviation/STEAM-focused educational environment.
- Serve as a positive role model, reflecting professionalism, responsibility, and respect.
- Work collaboratively as a member of the school team, supporting teachers, administration, and staff.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families both verbally and in writing.
- Assist licensed personnel in maintaining a classroom environment where individual differences are respected and supported.
- Support students as individuals, recognizing diverse learning styles and needs.
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and cohesive learning environment aligned with educational standards of safety and accountability.
- Assist with supplementary and enrichment activities, including supervision of independent study and project-based learning.
- Utilize current instructional technology, learning management systems, and digital tools to support instruction.
- Assist licensed personnel with student behavior management in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Support student engagement in appropriate academic and hands-on learning tasks, including STEAM and aviation-related activities.
- Provide assistance with individualized program materials, accommodations, and modifications as directed.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of certified teacher(s) and administration to prepare materials and classroom activities.
- Support small group instruction to reinforce concepts introduced by the teacher.
- Provide individualized support to students requiring additional assistance.
- Guide independent study, enrichment, credit recovery, and/or remedial work as assigned.
- Assist in the setup and supervision of instructional equipment, including multimedia tools, and laboratory materials.
- Assist with reading, tutoring, STEAM projects, and coursework.
- Supervise students in classrooms, labs, cafeteria, hallways, and other school settings as assigned.
- Participate in professional development, including training related to safety, instruction, and educational programming.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the school by maintaining high professional and interpersonal standards.
- Model appropriate workplace and social skills consistent with career-readiness expectations.
- Monitor and report unsafe conditions in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, labs, entrances, and outdoor areas in accordance with school safety protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in compliance with FERPA and school policies.
- Serve as the substitute teacher, when appropriately assigned, during the absence of certified instructional staff in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Administrator or Director of Operations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to move light classroom furniture and instructional materials.
- Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor settings.

- Knowledge of and adherence to universal hygiene precautions.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment consistent with school safety procedures.
- Willingness to follow all campus safety protocols, including those related to laboratory and simulation equipment use.
Equipment and Materials
- Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate instructional technology, including computers, tablets, interactive displays, learning management systems, audiovisual equipment, and instructional tools.
Working Environment
- Work is performed in classrooms, labs, offices, and common school areas.
- Ability to work within varying levels of noise, temperature, and activity.
- Frequent interruptions are routine.
- Flexibility, professionalism, and patience are required.
- Must be self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal direct supervision.
- Occasional after-hours work may be required for school events or activities.
Terms of Employment
- Salary determined by the Albuquerque Aviation Academy salary schedule and experience.
- Work year determined by the Head Administrator and the Governing Board.
